In this blog post, we will show you how to transform your hallway by installing beautiful Bruce Plano Marsh hardwood flooring, available at Home Depot. Hardwood floors not only enhance the appearance of your home, but they also add value, durability, and elegance. Follow these detailed steps, and don’t forget to watch the video tutorial at the end for a full step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Prepare the Area
The first step is to remove any old carpet or flooring from the hallway. In our case, we had worn-out carpet that we removed due to the high traffic in this area, which leads to the bedrooms and bathroom. After cleaning the space, measure the area to determine how many planks you will need and gather the required tools.
Step 2: Materials and Tools
For this project, we used:
- Bruce Plano Marsh Hardwood Flooring (from Home Depot)
- Pneumatic flooring nailer
- 16-gauge nails and a rubber mallet
- Underlayment paper for the flooring base
- Floor installation kit
- Saw for cutting the planks to size
Step 3: Install the Underlayment
Lay down the underlayment across the entire hallway before you begin placing the hardwood planks. This helps create a smooth, even surface and ensures the new planks are flush with existing hardwood floors in other areas of your home.
Step 4: Laying the Hardwood Planks
Start by placing the first plank at the edge of the hallway, leaving about a half-inch gap between the wall and the plank to allow for natural wood expansion. Use the pneumatic flooring nailer to secure the planks. Stagger the lengths of the planks for a natural pattern, avoiding aligned seams. In tight spaces like closets, you can use the 16-gauge nailer for precision.
Step 5: Complete the Installation
Continue installing planks across the hallway, carefully cutting and fitting each one to maintain straight lines. Make sure each board is snugly fit using a rubber mallet before nailing them down.
Step 6: Transitions and Finishing Touches
Once the main flooring is installed, add transition strips between different types of flooring, such as the carpet in the bedrooms. Use the appropriate transition strips to ensure a smooth and professional finish. You can also use wood filler to fill in small gaps where the new flooring meets the older floors.
Step 7: Reinstall Doors and Finish Details
After the flooring is fully installed, reinstall closet doors and any other hardware. You might also want to apply wood filler or finish touches to create a seamless look, especially in areas where the new flooring connects to other surfaces.
Final Result
The Bruce Plano Marsh hardwood flooring gave our hallway a fresh and stylish look. The natural wood grain with a light sheen adds warmth and durability. The final product is a beautiful, continuous surface that enhances the overall appeal of the space.
